My First Hands-On Comparison of the Rite Farm Quail Town vs Cimuka 5-Layer
Christian here, today I want to share my thoughts on the first shipped unit of the new Texas made Quail Town Cages, i have setup site by site with my existing Hatching Time Cages.
After a week of using both systems in my own setup, and here’s my direct comparison based on facts, and observations.

Build Quality
The Rite Farm cages are built in Saltillo, Texas. Welded aluminum frames, 14-gauge galvanized steel body, black PVC-coated ½″ × 1″ wire floors, and a hybrid plastic front. The structure feels rigid. When I stack them, the frames lock solid and don’t flex under the weight of birds and feed.
The Cimuka is an all-plastic (polypropylene) imported unit.
The plastic holds up to power washing, but under continuous load and temperature swings I’ve noticed more give in the structure compared to the metal on the Rite Farm.

Bird Comfort (This Matters to Me)
On the Rite Farm cages the PVC-coated floors are noticeably kinder on the birds’ feet.
I see less foot irritation. The hybrid plastic front gives the quail smooth access to the feed trough without constant rubbing on steel. The 22 feeder guards line up cleanly and cut down on wasted feed — something I watch closely because waste adds up fast.
The Cimuka has smooth plastic surfaces. The removable dividers let me open it into a more hutch-style layout, which some birds seem to prefer.
Weight and Handling
This is a big practical difference for me. The Rite Farm cages are lighter and far easier to move or rearrange in the barn. I can shift/move cages without much effort.
The Cimuka 5-layer comes in as a heavy 88 lb unit. Once assembled it’s a heavy, fixed tower. Moving it is a two-person job in most cases. If you need flexibility in your layout, the Rite Farm wins on day-to-day handling.
Cleaning and Daily Use
Both clean up well. The Rite Farm aluminum litter pans slide out and take parchment or silicone mats cleanly. The Cimuka trays also remove easily and the whole unit can be power washed, while the plastic trays tend to bend under too much poop and start getting brittle on edges and bend/break over time. I don’t find one clearly faster than the other for a full clean — it depends more on how dirty the birds make them and how you set up your routine.
Capacity and Flexibility
Rite Farm is modular. Each layer cage holds 12 jumbo or about 14 standard adults (I run 10 females + 2 males on jumbo). I can mix grow-out and layer cages and stack what I need.
Cimuka is a fixed 5-layer system rated up to 15 birds per layer (75 total). It has a jumbo flooring option if you’re running larger birds.
My Take After Using Both for a week
I prefer the Rite Farm system for most of my work. It’s American-made, the metal construction stays rigid, feed waste is lower, and the less heavy design lets me rearrange without wrestling a heavy plastic tower. The Cimuka is a solid, the assembly takes a little longer, but good package if you want a complete 5-tier plastic unit that power washes easily and doesn’t rust.
The Choice is yours
The Cimuka / Hatching time import from Turkey is a solid option on the US market since years, the water system has been criticized by some users, the plastic design can be a challenge in hot environments.
The Rite Farm Tower is new to the market, has a slightly smaller floor footprint, but the option to have 6 Tiers, and a mix between grow out and layer Tiers, which can be useful for a smaller footprint setup. The resale value is probably higher once/if first layers will hit the used cage / facebook marketplace.
It costs a couple of hundred dollars more right now, but its made in the US,
creating employment in rural Texas.
